AFGHAN REFUGEE MINISTRY

Called to care for the outsider, Hillsboro has long supported refugees in our community, typically sponsoring one family at a time. With many thousands of Afghan arrivals coming to the US, including well over 100 to the Nashville area, we have the opportunity to once again welcome strangers that flee persecution in their homeland.

Hillsboro has already donated $3000 from undesignated benevolence funds, but there are many more opportunities to help. In partnership with Catholic Charities, we invite you to assist in whatever way you can. The need is great and there are opportunities both in the short term and long term.

HOW CAN I HELP?

1.       Funding – Send or drop off your check made out to Hillsboro with “Afghan” on the memo line. If giving in-person, please place your check in the offering box. Online donations may be made HERE.

2.       In-kind Donations – Items may be dropped off in designated bins at Hillsboro. See list of needed items HERE.

Additionally, Catholic Charities has created an Amazon wishlist where items may be purchased straight from Amazon and delivered to Amy Fabien with Catholic Charities. You'll see her name when you go to check out. See the list HERE.

3.       Volunteer Opportunities for More Personal Involvement - Opportunities are available in several areas, including transportation, cultural orientation, youth mentors, and move-in help. Contact Brad Schrade, Volunteer Coordinator at Catholic Charities HERE for more information.
