New Century Project

Hillsboro Presbyterian Church formed in 1920 when two churches (Broadway & Grace Presbyterian) gave up their unique individual identities to form something new.  Over a hundred years later we start a new century of ministry in search of that new identity God is calling us to.  The New Century Project will take place over 3 years. During that time we will explore who God is calling us to be and what we need to get us there.  Our hope is to begin this project by taking on and accomplishing something big & transformative together. • All journeys begin with a single step and for us, the first step of the New Century project is adoption of a new Mission Statement. To mark the beginning of the New Century Project the leadership of HPC has prayerfully crafted and adopted a new congregational Mission Statement.

"Our mission is to be a living, breathing example of Jesus Christ in the world today."

It’s a simple phrase, but it calls us to something incredibly difficult… something Jesus asked of us… to be perfect, just as your heavenly father is perfect.

  • Over the course of the past 18 months the leadership of HPC has been exploring options for how we might update our facilities in order to create a modern & welcoming worship experience.  As we attempt to live into the calling of our new mission statement we expect HPC to be a vibrant and growing community.  In order that we might welcome and serve our neighbors we sought out the expertise of designers and architects to give us a new vision for what our campus might look like.

The Session began working with Lines Architecture in the later Winter of 2020,   Later in the project Kate Smith and Adrienne Martin, children of the church, were added into the design process to bring their expertise and connection to the church to the design.  Through the visionary leadership of these experts we have been given a design that we believe is both modern and timeless.  The overall renovation will take place in 2 phases and will be ideally completed within 18 months.

The lines and tones of this design are intended to focus the room by adding a greater sense of height through the new ceiling.  The use of unique slatted wood features on both the ceiling and walls adds even more warmth to the room, especially when it is saturated with sunlight.  The walls will see an upgrade with the use of wainscoting to give them a more traditional look.  One of the standout features of the design is the new church covered entrance.  This gives us a clearly defined entrance as well as an added element of safety and hospitality.  In addition, the chapel will be transformed by the relocating the historic glass windows to the chapel walls.  We believe this makes this already reverent space an even more ideal environment for smaller services and worship gatherings.

  • In order to fund the renovation we are excited to announce the New Century Capital Campaign.  God is working through us and the things we do to accomplish positive change in the world.  Every time we give, that gift becomes ministry and mission.  Please keep our congregation in prayer during this 3-year project.  It is our hope that we move together toward discerning God's call in our congregations life.

But we can’t pull this off without your support. Whether you're new to HPC or a long-time member... whether you attend regularly online or in-person... whether you attend on a regular basis, or just attend on occasion, we’re asking you to consider contributing to this massive undertaking prayerfully. It’s something we need our entire church community’s help with.  Even if you can’t make a large gift, know that every little bit helps. It’s more about coming together as a community united behind a common cause. We hope that you’ll consider making a donation toward this great step forward that we’re making together.
